Happy Lunar New Year

I am going to try to be more diligent in writing things down here. It may work much better once I figure out my technology and learn how to use my iPad to do that. I often think of things while I am out and about, or when the computer isn’t on.

It’s been a while since I added anything here.

Summer came and went

Our trip to Ottawa and Bowmanville was as exciting as we knew it would be.

An addition to the family was born on Sept 11. Welcome to the world, Jackson!

I am working on several patterns right now. One is out to testers, one will go to testers this weekend and my notebook is full of scribbles, sketches and lots of words.

I am going to try to finish updating my stash this weekend….complete with photos (ha ha ha)

What’s on the Needles

I thought I’d take stock of what I have on the needles, and find that there are far too many projects that need some attention

For the past several months, I have been concentrating on designing. No grand expectations, just a couple things. But, I find that the pile of projects just keeps sitting there. It’s not getting any smaller, and, I think, it might be getting bigger.

If you stalk my Ravelry page, then you know I have WIPs. But did you know that I have about twice as many than I have listed?

I am currently working on a new cowl pattern, using IndigoMoon Yarns. If you haven’t seen these colours up close and personal, you should get some. The deep fall/winter colours are my favourite. Pictures don’t do the colour saturation justice.

I think I’ll take pictures of all my wips and post them tomorrow

For now, I have to get back to knitting

Just a vent about life during time served…..

This has nothing to do with knitting, NASCAR, or food.

This is all about people and how they interact with each other.

I would think that when I do something at your request, you would be happy. I did it well and without having to come to you to ask a ga-zillion questions about how, why, where. I just did what you asked.

Then you had the audacity to say to someone else (who you probably didn’t know would tell me about it) that you fully expected me to do the opposite of what you requested, simply because it was a different time. To add to that, you managed to get a few other people “on your side”, even though it was the group of you that didn’t want to do what I had originally requested anyway. You din’t want to do it when I asked, so I found someone else to do it. Now you’re complaining that I didn’t ask you again? What is up with that?

I don’t expect you to agree with me all the time; nor do I expect you to do everything I ask for…. but I do expect you to remember the decisions you made/make and not to get your knickers in a knot when I turn to someone else to do YOUR job. It’s much nicer working with people who want to do it, rather than you – who is being forced to do it because it’s in your job description.

You can’t keep changing your mind about whether or not you’re going to do this. It’s in your job description. It is part of your expectations document. It should be an automatic part of your day-to-day existence in the workplace. But, I will reiterate here – I don’t expect much from you – simply because there isn’t much to expect.

End of rant

New pattern – new level of excitement

I finally published my new pattern on Ravelry

Made with Indigo Moon Yarn’s hand-dyed BFL, this lace-edged shawlette is the perfect accessory when you need something over bare shoulders in an air-conditioned office or on a cool summer night. Then, when winter sets in, it will fit into any wardrobe as a scarf.

The wide span ensures it drapes over your shoulders and stays where you want it or allows you to wrap it loosely, but warmly, around your neck.

The side-to-side stockinette construction incorporates the lace edging as you knit and allows for customization when you want to make the most of a single skein of yarn.
With the I-Cord beginning and end, and the intentional 3-stitch roll along the neck edge, this shawlette is all softness.

Purchase any weight of Indigo Moon Yarns and receive this pattern for free

The hardest part was finding an appropriate name for the design. A lot came to mind but unless I told the whole story that went along with the name, it just didn’t work.

You’re not the boss of me

Do you think a knitwear designer has the right to tell you what you can or can’t do with something you made from their pattern?

A lot of patterns from Ravelry include this type of disclaimer: Do not make hats to sell from this pattern. Do not use this pattern in any way, to make a profit, unless you have my written approval.

Yeah, right….. I really don’t care if you don’t want me to sell the hat I made from your pattern. You can’t tell me that I can’t make a profit. I don’t need your permission to sell a hat I happened to make from your pattern.

I can’t sell your pattern for a profit – but if I don’t want it any more, I can sell it.

This is the disclaimer I have on my pattern:

Please note:
You have purchased this pattern for your personal use only.
You have not purchased the permissions to copy, distribute or sell the pattern.
You may print a hard copy of the pattern for your personal use, but may not distribute it, for free or at cost, under any circumstances.

Basically, the above-mentioned designer thinks she has full control over what I do with what I make. If the yarn manufacturer had the same disclaimer, she couldn’t sell anything she made with that yarn. If fabric manufacturers had the same disclaimer, I guess everyone would learn how to sew their own clothes because no one would be able to sell anything made from the pattern.

So, Miss Designer, you are not the boss of me.

On a Whim….

I really didn’t think that there would be  much interest in a simple knitted cowl pattern.

But, while it isn’t going to allow me to quit my job, I have been pleasantly surprised by the interest from knitters around the world.

I’ve learned a few things about Ravelry and how PayPal works. I’ve learned that I need to be clearer with abbreviations and directions. And,,,, I now know that I need a good name for my on-line store. How does one go about choosing a name that is a true reflection of oneself?

I’ll have to think about that further while I write out my next project pattern

Thank for reading  🙂
